last entry, we have learned that the Iguazu waterfalls are great. They are so great that we have considered us again, this time from the other - the Brazilian - side.
Not with Argentina but Brazil with Paraguay is divided, however, the biggest hydropower plant in the world (the Three Gorges Dam Kraftwerkl need a few more years to run it Itaipu is the rank). In contrast to conform in the Iguazu Itaipu bare facts and figures to describe it, because you'd have to be Betonfetischist, nice thing about this monster to find. Impressive are the dimensions of this "modern wonder of the world" but all.
It is the world's largest man-made structure of the 20 Century.
The amount would Concrete used for 219 Maracana stadium, those rich in the used type of iron & steel for 380 Eifeltuerme.
During the construction work more than twice the volume of the Sugar Loaf in Rio has been moved.
The construction speed of Itaipu would be about as if they would build every 55 minutes, a 20-story building.
The "exhaust" is 62 200 m3 / s water management (40 times as much as flows over the Iguazu Falls). All the water of the Iguazu Falls would be sufficient only for two of the 20 turbines operate.
The dam is up to 196 meters high and 7.76 km long.
And who's saying what: the plant produces up to 93.4 billion kWh / year! (For comparison, this is exactly 120 times as much as the much-debated group Kraftwerk Sell Rain / Silz creates).
